🚧 The Sneaky Ways We Block Honest Feedback

LIP #283
Jun 26, 2026

We are wired to self-correct — but only if we actually get honest feedback.

The problem? We send signals that shut people down without realizing it:

  • Going quiet or looking fragile
  • Getting defensive or explaining yourself
  • Saying "yep, got it" in a tone that means "please stop"
  • Using humor to deflect

People learn fast. They stop trying to tell you the truth.

The counterintuitive fix: Even feedback from someone you don't fully trust has value.

There's always at least 1% truth in any feedback — find it.

Build your circle of trust — people who genuinely want you to succeed. Be most vulnerable with them. But stay curious with everyone else, because that 1% might be exactly what you needed to hear.
