🌾 Whole Foods, Fiber, and Your Gut Bacteria
What are whole foods?
Whole foods come straight from nature with no processing. No long ingredient lists, no boxes. Think vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, and grains in their natural form.
Why fiber is your best friend
Fiber is a carbohydrate your body cannot absorb directly. Instead, your gut bacteria eat it and produce vitamins your body needs.
Your gut needs to be about 80% good bacteria - and fiber is what keeps them fed and strong. Too much sugar feeds the bad bacteria instead.
Protein digestion times:
- Fish: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Chicken: 3 hours
- Eggs: 3.5 hours
- Beef: 6 hours
Knowing this helps you understand why eating lighter foods first and heavier foods later makes so much sense for your body!
