We are trained to crave sugar from birth

Breast milk, fruit purees, sweet cereals - by age two, most Western kids are already wired to reach for sugar first. But knowing this gives you the power to change it!

Practical everyday tips:

  • Eat hummus, guacamole, or cucumber 30 minutes before drinking alcohol to keep blood sugar stable
  • Skip the bread basket at restaurants
  • Save treats for the end of the meal, after fiber and protein
  • Try ending meals with a small piece of cheese instead of a big dessert

The golden balance

Being too strict about food causes stress, which is also bad for your body. The goal is simple: get your fiber and protein in first, then enjoy a small treat without guilt.
