LIP #188
May 09, 2024
Preparing a whole fish at home is easier than it looks - just follow these simple steps!
Beginner method:
- Chop off the head
- Remove the wider section near the head
- Cut off the tail
- Gently separate meat from bones along the skeleton
- Remove any small remaining bones
More confident method:
- Remove spikes first to avoid bitterness and injury
- Cut diagonally along the natural line near the gills
- Run knife carefully along the skeleton to lift the fillet
For raw fish (sashimi-style):
- Cut fillets in half and press firmly while removing skin
- Serve with lemon, olive oil, orange slices, or tomatoes
Take your time, be gentle, and you will be surprised how easy it gets!
