Fresh, Frozen, or Farmed - What's the Difference? 🧊
Not all frozen or farmed fish are bad - it really depends on how they were handled!
Frozen fish: Most fishing boats freeze their catch immediately at sea using super-fast freezing. The texture may be slightly softer when thawed, but quality is still very good. For fish like cod caught far offshore, freezing is completely normal and necessary.
Two types of fish farming:
| Type | What it means | Quality |
|------|--------------|--------|
| Classic farming | Fish in pools, overfed for fast growth | Lower quality |
| Open ocean farming | Fish in nets within real ocean water | Much better quality |
The key takeaway - always ask how the fish was raised or caught, not just whether it is fresh or frozen.
