Most people think burnout happens from working too many hours. But here's the surprising truth: burnout is caused by being in a situation too long without experiencing growth.

Think of it like a plant. If it stops growing, something is wrong underneath the surface.

Key signs of burnout:

  • Exhaustion and physical symptoms
  • Cynicism - feeling like things are 'impossible'
  • The 'why bother?' attitude
  • Complacency and giving up

Real work is messy - like the early SpaceX Raptor engine before it became clean and simple. Being proud of your messy, complicated work-in-progress is actually a superpower. When you hide the messy parts, you can't fix them. When you face them openly, you start making progress - and that progress fights burnout.
