🧂 How to Make Gomashio: A 3-Ingredient Superfood Seasoning

Gomashio is a Japanese seasoning you can make at home in minutes, and it makes everything taste better.

You only need 3 ingredients:

  • Flaxseed (one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids)
  • Sesame seeds (black, white, or both)
  • A pinch of salt

How to make it:

  1. Toast the seeds in a pan on medium heat for 4-5 minutes
  2. Keep a lid on — flaxseed jumps when it heats up
  3. When it smells toasty (like cereal or warm bread), turn off the heat
  4. Blend into a powder — done

Optional add-in: Crumble a little nori (sushi seaweed) before blending for even deeper umami flavor.

Make a batch, store it in a jar, and use it on everything — tofu, pasta, vegetables. It tastes rich and almost cheesy, like Parmesan, but completely plant-based.
