🌱 Growing and Using Tomatoes the Smart Way
Growing tomatoes at home gives you the best flavor possible, far better than store-bought ones.
End of summer tip: When you have too many tomatoes, blanch and peel them to make a sauce you can store and use all year.
Avoid winter tomatoes. Greenhouse-grown tomatoes lack sunlight and taste really poor compared to seasonal ones.
Using different ripeness levels:
- Unripe tomatoes are firm like apples, great for thin slicing
- Ripe plum tomatoes are juicy, perfect for saucy dishes
- Cherry tomatoes are intensely sweet but only truly good for 3-4 months a year
Eating tomatoes in season is always the best choice.
