🐘 The Elephant, The Rider, and Blocking the Average Path
Imagine you're riding a giant elephant. The elephant is your subconscious mind - your emotions and habits. You, the rider, are your logical brain. The problem? The rider cannot force the elephant where to go.
The solution: block certain paths.
There are three roads ahead of you:
- Road to greatness = 4% of the path
- Road to terrible = 4% of the path
- Road to average = a massive 92%
Left alone, your elephant always takes the easy 92% average road. So you need to put up a fence and block that entire average path.
Now the elephant only has two choices. Surprisingly, being terrible is the second-best option - the pain of failure eventually forces change. But being average keeps you comfortable and going nowhere.
Average is what truly stops you from being great.
