🌊 Surviving vs. Thriving: Knowing Which Game You're Playing
Before you can win, you need to know which game you're playing.
There are two modes: surviving and thriving — and the rules are completely different for each.
Surviving Mode
Winning just means not dying. Death could be losing a job, a business, or facing something scary. Like drowning — just getting your head above water is the win. That's called getting to zero.
Thriving Mode
This looks elegant from the outside — like Olympic skaters gliding effortlessly. But behind that elegance is enormous, invisible work. The ease you see is built on thousands of hours of grind.
The Key Insight
Nobody stays in one mode forever. You shift between them depending on the situation. The skill is situational awareness — being honest about where you actually are right now.
Think of the 300 Spartans — outnumbered but strategic, protecting each other, playing both offense and defense at once. That's the model.
Remember: High-performing people believe reality is negotiable. They keep finding new angles until something gives.
