⚔️ Defense vs. Offense: The Two Sides of Good Judgment
Judgment has two sides, just like a sports team.
Defense means handling whatever comes at you. Staying calm under pressure. Dealing with conflict. Most of us have been trained on this side our whole lives.
Offense means saying: I can do anything. I can create something new. Nobody tells you what to do on offense. You have to figure it out yourself — and that is way harder.
Jalen Brunson of the NY Knicks said it perfectly:
"You put confidence in everything you do when the lights are on because of everything you have done when no one is watching."
That is offense. You build it quietly through discipline and habits, and it shows up when you need it most.
The most successful way to navigate uncertainty comes down to:
- Human skills, especially judgment
- A great thinking partner who sees things differently than you
Two different minds working together — even through conflict — is what leads to the best decisions.
