Today's world has changed in three key ways:

  1. More noise - standing out is harder than ever
  2. Everything is connected - small actions have big ripple effects
  3. Shorter predictions - we can only reliably plan about 60 days ahead now

The Driving Analogy for Emotions:

  • Stress levels 7-9 = highway driving - too dangerous for big decisions
  • High emotion = stick to parking lots and side streets

When you feel yourself getting worked up, create a mental speed bump - acknowledge it out loud. This slows you down and shows others you're self-aware.

Important: Self-awareness works best when you drive it. When others point out your emotional state, it often leads to defensiveness or shame.
